At Groveport United Methodist Church, we celebrate the diversity of thought within our congregation, encouraging everyone to explore their faith in a welcoming and inclusive environment. While we may have different perspectives, we are united by our belief in God who loves us and our commitment to loving others as we love ourselves. This shared devotion guides our faith community as we seek to live according to God’s will and the teachings of Jesus Christ.
We believe in one God, revealed to us in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This understanding of the Trinity reflects the depth and mystery of God’s presence in the world.
At the heart of our faith is the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ. We believe that in Jesus, God became human, showing us the depth of divine love through his life, death, and resurrection. This is what we call the Incarnation—God in the world as Jesus of Nazareth. At the same time, Jesus was fully human, experiencing life as we do, yet without sin.
We proclaim Jesus as our Lord, submitting our lives to his will and acknowledging his authority over all creation. We also affirm Jesus as our Savior, the one through whom God frees us from sin and offers us the gift of eternal life. Through Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection, we receive salvation and are invited into a life of wholeness.
We believe that the Holy Spirit is God’s active presence in the world today, guiding us, comforting us, and challenging us as we strive to live according to God’s will. When we feel God’s leading or comfort, it is the Holy Spirit at work in our lives.
At Groveport United Methodist Church, we believe that the Bible is vital to our faith and life. The Bible, a collection of sixty-six books written over a thousand-year period, contains the Old and New Testaments and speaks to us of God’s promises and love. We believe that the writers of the Bible were inspired by God and that through the Holy Spirit, the words of Scripture continue to speak to us today. The Bible is not just an ancient text, but a living document through which God communicates with us, helping us understand life’s realities and offering us everything necessary for salvation.
We believe that the church is the body of Christ, called to continue Christ’s ministry in the world. Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. As a community of faith, we worship God together and support one another in our spiritual growth. We also believe that all humans are created in God’s image and that we are meant to be in relationship with God. This relationship is what makes us fully human, offering us the opportunity to live lives of meaning, purpose, and connection with the divine.
Groveport United Methodist Church began holding worship services in 1836. Since that time, three different buildings have been constructed with the current building being built in 1907. It was listed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1995.
The United Methodist Church is a global denomination that opens hearts, opens minds and opens doors through active engagement with our world. The mission of The United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
A United Methodist is someone who joins in that mission by putting faith and love into action. We believe that God loves all people, and that we share in expressing that love. So the United Methodist tradition emphasizes God’s grace and in serving others. We believe that Jesus Christ is the fullest expression of God’s love–showing us the fullness of God’s care through Jesus’ teachings, death and resurrection.
John Wesley started the Methodist movement in 18th century England. His teachings on practical divinity (living out our faith) and appeals to reason and experience form important aspects of United Methodist practice today.
